Turns out the bag of Flaming Hot Cheetos had come in handy.

We were perched on the living room floor, the empty bag next to me as we sat having a gossip session, which mainly involved Lily questioning me about my sex life and demanding details about penis sizes.

I was just jokingly giving an imaginary measurement using my hands as a ruler when the door swung open. I paused, as did Finn, Dex and Bryson.

"Uh, what in all things dirty is going on here?" Dex asked, motioning to my penis ruler.

I quickly dropped my hands, embarrassed as Lily snorted in laughter.

"Nothing for you to worry about," she muttered.

"Lily!" I hissed.

Dex raised his eyebrows, walking around us to sit on the couch. "Well, she's right. It is nothing to worry about, at all."

"Oh, my God," I muttered, dropping my face into my knees as I took refuge in the fetal position.

Bryson dropped onto the floor next to me. "Good to see you're feeling better."

"And that you've eaten. Although…" Finn murmured, sitting next to Lily.

"It's food," I argued, quickly disposing of the empty packet into my pocket.

Finn nodded. "I agree. So you're let off the hook for now."

"Where did you go?" I asked, desperately changing the subject.

"Dex and I went to the restaurant for a business meeting. Bryson had one too."

I looked at Bryson quickly. "At Tronic's?"

He nodded. "They wanted to let me go."

My mouth fell open as I looked at him in panic. "Because of me?"

Bryson grabbed my hand, his fingers caressing my knuckles. "I told them that I quit because I wasn't going to continue working at a firm that discriminated and judged."

"No… you worked so hard for that promotion. You can't throw it away," I argued. This was unfair and I once again, was overwhelmed with guilt.

This time, Bryson cupped my cheek. "Listen to me. That promotion should have been yours. They did nothing but make you suffer. And if they are going to treat their employees like that, then they can shove it. I won't work in a toxic work environment. Sure – I was arrested, and they can use that as an excuse all they like. But at the end of the day, this is about how they are treating people. We're better than that, and we don't need them."

The room stayed quiet, his admission sinking in to all of us. Finally, Lily stood, dusting off her pants. "I think that's my cue to leave."

I looked at her in confusion, it growing more so with the look she gave me in return. "I'll be back. But I think you guys need some alone time."

The way she said alone time hit differently, and I raised an eyebrow at her. She smiled in return before reaching for the door handle.

I was going to kill her.

That sneaky, far-too-intelligent…

"What's this?" Lily asked, picking a note off the outside of the door.

"Huh?" was all I could muster as the change of dynamic floored me.

Lily opened the note, her playful blue eyes reading the contents.
